The Avicultural Society of New South Wales is one of the oldest bird societies in Australia. It commenced in 1940 and is still the most diverse bird society in our state, covering a full range of bird groups. We are all about birds in human care, so CARE FOR birds... but we also CARE ABOUT birds, their survival, their conservation and habitats.
- We have a large, friendly and diverse membership catering for all levels of bird keeping from the novice to the experienced aviculturist.
- We have specialist people at our meetings who cover all aspects of keeping and breeding a diverse range of bird groups.
- Meet people at our meetings with similar interests to yourself.
- For those who are unable to attend meetings we produce a great bi-monthly magazine.
Game and Waterfowl
For those people with larger properties that are interested in keeping and breeding such species as pheasants, ornamental chickens, ducks and geese.
Pet Companian Birds
These are pet birds that share our homes. How do you look after them properly? Become a member and find out about their personality and care. Junior members most welcome.
Parrots
The keeping, management and breeding of species as diverse as budgerigars to Macaws. Find out which species would be suitable for your housing situation, before buying them.
Finches
Both Australian and foreign finches. We have specialist speakers at our meeting who cover all aspects of keeping and breeding finches.
Softbills
Includes all birds that are not grain eaters. These include species such as wrens and chats which require live food such as lorkeets and honey eaters and fruit eaters such as fruit doves
Conservation and Habitat
We also care ABOUT birds and realise that they need places to live if they are to thrive and survive. There are always things that can be done. We support and provide technical and physical support to Species Recovery Programs.
The Avicultural Society of NSW (ASNSW) CARES FOR birds and CARES ABOUT birds, primarily in New South Wales, but if the issue is a Federal / National / International one we will take that on, develop policy and promote the interests of birds and our membership.
